Welcome to the Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr community council website.

The village of Llanfihangel GM is situated on the B5105 Ruthin to Cerrigydrudion road in the Hiraethog area of outstanding natural beauty. The village name translates to 'The Church of Saint Michael in the Valley of Meditation'.

The village is the heart of the local farming community, there are beef, dairy and sheep farms, recent diversification has seen the production of oilseed rape and free range poultry. The village has a public house called The Crown which is situated at the bottom of the notorious Crown hill by 'Pont yr Afon Alwen' the Alwen river bridge. The village has St Michael's Church, which is probably the oldest building; it was mentioned in the Norwich Taxation of 1254 as Ecca de Lanvihangel, there is a delightful picnic place by the riverside just a bit further along the lane. The village has a chapel, held in the vestry, where the local defibrillator is also to be found. There is also a small centre at Nant yr odyn which is very suitable to hold charity events. During the summer the villagers hold a sports day and barbeque which is an ideal way of getting together, it also has a successful Women’s' institute with over 20 members.

Amongst its famous sons there was Owain Myfyr {Owen Jones} an antiquarian who lived at Tyddyn Tudur, his nephew Hugh Maurice. Colonel William Salesbury after the defeat of Denbigh Castle was sent to live at Bodtegir Farm, he was named the 'Hen Sane Gleision' after the blue coloured stockings he wore.

There are two ancient hill forts, at Caer Ddunod and at Caer Caradog, there are also references in the area to saints, Ffynnon saint in Tyddyn Tudur and Pant saint a field at Derwydd.

Visitors are always charmed by the quiet ambiance, the delightful walks, and the natural world found here.
